Alex Bridge I have been involved in the Arts (visual art, art education, community arts, theatre and music) for the past 25 years or so. After studying visual arts in Alice Springs and Darwin, I moved to Qld and completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts in Fine Art at Qld College of Art in 1996, majoring in printmaking and sculpture. As well, I completed further visual arts studies at Southbank TAFE where I was later employed tutoring visual arts students. Since moving to Maleny over 8 years ago I have focussed mainly on painting, mixed media/collage and assemblage; as well as performing with my partner singer-songwriter Noel Gardner. For the past 8 years I have also made large cane and paper images for the annual Woodford Folk Festival Fire Event Closing Ceremony. I like to use a wide range of styles, mediums and techniques in making my art, consequently my output is eclectic, varied and inconsistant, a lot like life really! Sometimes in my work there is whimsy and humour; sometimes there is a literal simplicity without mystery; while at other times my imagery is deeper and layered with more complex meanings. Last year I held a very successful exhibition of my paintings at the UpFront Club in Maleny and I am about to start on my next body of work, with lots of ideas to explore. Styles: contemporary, abstract, semi-abstract, figurative and illustrative Main artforms: painting/mixed media works on canvas, board and paper. Also assemblage, natural fibre sculpture, large-scale image construction, recycled/found object jewellery & illustration. Contact Artist |
