Barry Smith is a sculptural artist, printmaker and metal worker who lives and works in Maleny in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast hinterland.
Barry recycles materials to create three dimensional art works. His sculptural pieces bring together salvaged timber, rust and metal to give them new life and show the beauty of decay and the discarded.
Barry works recycled timber to use its colour and grain without turning it into a piece of fine furniture. Many of his pieces reflect aspects of nature and the natural environment.
Barry favours structure in his pieces and this can often be seen in the use of lines and grid patterns. He creates pieces for both in and outdoors including landscape and public art.
