Simone McLeod I have always had a drawing implement of some description or another in my hand, for as far back as I can remember. I left Australia when I was three and lived in Latin America and Spain until the age of twelve where upon, I returned with my family to Australia. I was accepted at Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education, Toowoomba studying Printmaking. I received a grant to study traditional Batik in Jogjakarta Java Indonesia. Upon my return I picked up my studies at Claremont School of Fine Art WA in Textile design. My fabrics have been represented by a number of fashion houses through out South East Asia. I have paintings that have been added to collections with mining and construction companies in the Northern Territory. My passion is in the forms, shapes, textures that are found in nature, the ever-changing light~the hues~the tones, the incredible colours that surround me and dance through the atmosphere. The patterns, the lines that are made or left behind by nature are exceptional, stimulating my imagination. And with this inspiration through nature, I am driven to metamorphose what I perceive into a collection of images using mixed media. My Life's journey to this point has greatly influenced the way in which I now approach my work. I am attracted to 'stories' whether a handed down recipe scrawled on a piece of faded paper,a song that long ago lost its musician,a poem whose author has been forgotten with words that have long faded,an overgrown garden that has outlived the house which it once embraced,a piece of old fabric worn and ragged,an old vehicle that has infused it's rusty body into the landscape. I am attracted to the 'mystery'that these 'things'now hold. I am challenged by these elements of creativity, experimenting with line in the many forms of drawing and the layering of textures and the images that may or may not be there. The pieces I currently produce unfold out of pure self indulgence of expression, while others are pieces which have been commissioned works. Contact Artist |
