Tony Greaves

Painter & Fine Woodwork

Innovative painter furniture designer - sculptor and ardent traveller, Tony is happily settled in Maleny, where he enjoys life painting in his own unique style and sculpting some of the beautiful local timbers.

Born in England in 1937, Tony emigrated to New Zealand as a child where he later trained as an engineer. During the 1960s he spent some years in photography and air brush painting. Developing a passion for sculpture led him to study wood carving with a master Maori carver and metal sculpture with octogenarian sculptor and jeweller Bob Timbs.

Developing his own style in furniture design led to the production of fine hand carved furniture which he sold through his own gallery. As demand grew for his work, he found it necessary expand and employ top class craftsmen in his studio and also develop a four year apprenticeship scheme in furniture wood carving and design for young people.

The 1980s saw Tony return to Britain, where he toured extensively, soaking up the art and culture of Europe. Over the years, Tony has established himself as an individual artist, painting, designing and making unique commissioned and exhibition pieces of sculptured furniture, many being held in collections im Europe and the U.S.A. as well as in Australasia

In more recent years Tony’s focus has returned to painting in oils, developing a “tongue in cheek” whimsical, sometimes erotic style he describes as “Contemporary Baroque”, an example being the “Mozart Collection.” Tony also produces computer generated limited edition prints of his work.
