Maya Carter-Malins Born in rural New Zealand, Maya grew up with a rich appreciation of nature and love of the land. Moving to the coastal area of the Hokianga when she was nine, she became immersed in the spiritual connection with art and nature through her experiences with Maori culture. She attended Ilam School of Art at the University of Canterbury, NZ, majoring in printmaking. She developed a rich toolbox of techniques as well as an appreciation of the sensuality of textured surfaces. She moved to Australia in 1989, settling in Kalgoorlie, WA. She taught printmaking and drawing at Kalgoorlie College, and included in her studies jewellery-making and textiles. She moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1999, and took time out from producing art to focus on her family and her other passion, bellydancing. Over the last year she has turned her attention back to painting and drawing.Maya is currently working on commission pieces and a body of works for a solo exhibition. Contact Artist |
